WTN: Two Older Turley PetiteSirahs..(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Feb 09, 2021 4:20 pm

Tried these two last night:
1. Turley PetiteSirah RattlesnakeAcres/NapaVlly (13.2%) 2001: Very dark color w/ light bricking; strong pencilly/cedary/oak/oldRed slight blackberry/PS/earthy/loamy bit complex nose; soft rather earthy/loamy/oafish fairly cedary/pencilly/oldRed slight blackberry/PS/bit peppery fairly smooth/round little complexity flavor w/ light gentle tannins; very long fairly earthy/dusty/OV rustic/oafish rather cedary/pencilly/Fr.oak/oldRed bit blackberry/PS/peppery finish w/ light smooth tannins; showing a bit of cedary/oldRed character and on the downside; a fully mature PS w/ a bit of fruit remaining; on the downside but still an interesting fully-mature PS.

2. Turley PetiteSirah LibraryVnyd/NapaVlly (14.5%) 2005: Fairly dark color w/ little bricking; strong ripe/blackberry/PS/bit spicy/peppery bit rustic/earthy light pencilly/oak bit complex (for PS) nose; soft bit hot/alcoholic fairly strong PS/blackberry/peppery rather oafish some pencilly/oak fairly earthy flavor w/ light smooth tannins; very long soft strong blackberry/PS/peppery bit earthy/rustic light pencilly/oak bit complex finish w/ light tannins; typical fully mature PS w/ fully resolved tannins but shows the oafish/clunky side of PS & not much in the way of complexity; fully mature and still alive but on the fast track to nowhere or Riley KS.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Both of these are fairly typical of fully mature PS. They show the rustic/oafish/clunky side of the grape but not much in the way of evolution/complexity except for the resolved tannins. They're not gonna die anytine soon but are on a fast track to nowhere.

I was hoping for notes on one of the ones I own - 97 Aida, Hayne and Rattlesnake. Have you had them before?

We have a Turley, Petite Sirah, Napa Valley, 2017. Currently in cooler planned for 2026. I, too, would appreciate any insights.

FWIW also have a Turley Zin Paper Street, Paso, 2017. Grown at a higher elevation than their usual Zin. Tasted clearly different to us....intriguing at the time.
