Jeff Carrel Chatgris Vin Orange 2017 - VdF; 100% Grenache gris; 15% abv (wtf???); 24€
I remember seeing very positive mentions of Jeff Carrel in my past life when I was more into wine geekery than now so picked up one Chatgris today since it became available in Alko. I was not disappointed. It is an approachable and easy orange wine, one to serve to the curious, open-minded skeptic. Fino Sherry aromas but more fruit; earthy but with ripe citrus aromas. Rich fruit, slightly grippy but not harsh at all tannin from the skin contact, juicy acidity, tiny bit warm on the finish but 15% abv is unbelievable. But these wines are tested by Alko's lab before release and the website confirms the 15% abv on the bottle so I guess I must believe it. Wow. Or maybe it's not that surprising since Fino can stand it. Clean, refreshing, interminable finish with an almost sherry-like intensity. I love it even though it is an easy and approachable orange wine. Buy again? Oh yeah!
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.
