Wine night dinner

We had 2 friends (in our social bubble) over for dinner last night and they brought wine from their cellar. Our contribution was a tasty Prosecco to go with the cranberry Brie bites appetizer. I made bistro steak with mustard cream to go with the 26 year old Bordeaux, which had a beautiful nose of leather, tobacco and a hint of ripe plums. Smooth midpalate of ripe fruit and oxidized notes and a nice but somewhat strange Madeira type finish. Great food wine that was a bit past peak but still drinking nicely. They also brought an Aussie botrytized semillon (a Sauternes wanna be) that was a great match with pumpkin pie. It had great caramel colour, an expressive nose of honey and caramelized brown sugar. The midpalate had this great bright blood orange acidity to balance out the honey and maple syrup flavours! Not every day you get to taste a 27 year old dessert wine.

Nice stuff. I am surprised someone would hold a Beau Site that long.

This friend has a partner who does not drink red wine, just white. So, he brings it to our place to share it with us. Even so, it was still drinking very nicely, if a bit past its prime.
