WTN: Two Cedarville {Grenaches}...short/boring)

by TomHill » Sat Jan 30, 2021 4:13 pm

Tried these two last night:
1. Cedarville {Grenache} Estate/ElDorado (15.3%; 215 cs) 2004: Med.dark color w/ some bricking; rather earthy/mushroomy/ElDorado some strawberry/Grenache bit CdP-like/Rhonish rather complex nose; soft slightly tired fairly earthy/ElD/loamy bit alcoholic light strawberry/Grenache bit SRhonish flavor w/ light drying tannins; med.long soft bit tired/pemcilly light strawberry/Grenache rather SRhonish some ElD/earthy/loamy finish w/ light drying tannins; clearly on the downside but in remarkably good & interesting condition a bit like an aged Cotes du Rhone.
_______________
2. Cedarville {Grenache} Estate/ElDorado (15.1%; 100 cs) 2018: Dark color; very fragrant Grenache/strawberry/Alpine strawberry/bright/quite spicy light earthy/loamy/ElD light pencilly/oak very attractive nose; lightly tart rather rich/lush/ripe strong bright/Grenache/strawberry/spicy very light pencilly/oak some ElD/earthy/loamy flavor w/ light brisk tannins; long lightly tart strong strawberry/Grenache/spicy some earthy/loamy/ElD finish w/ light tangy tannins; quite a pretty expression of Grenache w/ the ElD terroir giving it a slightly SRhonish character.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. The '18 is the latest Cedarville Grenache release. It is really quite a pretty Grenache. Not your usual tutti-fruity Grenache. The distinctive ElDorado earthy/loamy/mushroomy terroir give the wine a somewhat SRhone character that makes it quite interesting.
