WTN: Ridge Geyserville 2017

Lockdown Wine #81. Tasted after about 45 minutes in the glass. Deep, opaque purple. Attractive nose. Ripe black fruit, a bit of blueberry jam, sweet spices, and a slight herbal note at the end. Rich, soft tannins, pretty much echoes what's showing on the nose. Nice, nice, ripe, crunchy fruit. The alcohol on this is pretty high at 14.5% but you don't notice it at all. So well integrated. Good length. But at this point, it's all fruit. Still, no complaints at all. Drinking very well now. Given past experience with Geyserville, no doubt will gain complexity with time. Very good now, and a great match for some Italian meatballs.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.

Geyserville has been fantastic the last four vintages, even better than usual. 2018 (current) is even better.

I had assumed 2017 was too young to broach. I have 3 bottles of it, but I have older ones I think I'll open first.

Geyserville usually has a few early years when it stays open and juicy.

Maybe you should do both! I sometimes drink a young bottle of something just to remind myself later of what the were like in the beginning, even wines I know from other vintages.

Exactly. I always try a bottle of the new release. That’s how I know whether to buy 6 or 12.
