WTN: Ridge Estate Chardonnay 2017

Lockdown Wine #80. White gold with green highlights. Citrus rind, honey, and a little smoky oak on the nose. There's a bit of heat (14.2% alc.) but not really distracting. Rich, lovely satiny mouthfeel. Hint of butter, citrus rind again, green apple. Fruit tends toward yellow tropical - mango and pineapple, and ends with pomelo/grapefruit. Some bready notes if you dig deep. Pretty ripe but not sweet. Good length. Put together really well. Chardonnay isn't my favorite grape, but this one is so good and real easy to drink. Enjoyable now, but I think can age a couple of years. Excellent.

Thanks. MB red and the zins get the most attention, but I've always enjoyed Ridge's whites. A 73 MB chardonnay was still going strong 4 years ago!

Very impressive! A chard almost 50 years old and still going strong. I wonder if the more recent ones have that kind of longevity.
