WTN: Texier Adèle 2017

by Saina » Tue Jan 19, 2021 5:18 pm

Eric Texier CdR Adèle 2017 - 100% Clairette; c.18€; 13% abv
This was a lovely little wine. I'm not terribly familiar with the Clairette grape but this was a friendly, aromatic wine with apple and honey aromas. Quite rich and less austere than my idea of Texier's wines but not at all over the top - that must be the grape, not Texier, that brings in this uncommon richness? Unfortunately I haven't had a Texier in years since I'm no longer in the wine business and these aren't available here easily. But it was nice to reacquaint myself with this producer. I wish we had more than this available here.
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

What a cool wine! I am pretty certain I've never had a 100% clairette. Perhaps a blend somewhere along the way long long ago--it sounds familiar but no names come up--but otherwise like most I only know of it as a constituent in the venerable Beaucastel.

So I checked my TN files and did fine one brought to a tasting group by a friend. This one, which I offer to you for comparison to yours:

2015 Domaine du Banneret Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Secret Clairette Blanche
Tim's. Curry leaf, clay-ey, contains roussanne but drinks like an aged Sauv Blanc, tons of white pepper. Good.

I have never had a Texier wine :( .

He doesn't seem to be regarded as a go-to producer by French and Belgian wine-lovers, probably because of his status as a négociant, and most geeks' cavistes don't stock his wines; the nearest to us is 110 km away in Rouen.

I once planned to go to one of his tastings in Ghent, I think, but couldn't make it.
