WTN: Jasmin Cote-Rotie '81....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sun Jan 17, 2021 6:32 pm

We tried Sat afternoon:
1. Jasmin Cote-Rotie AC: Cote-Rotie (MeBalP; 11%-14%; KermitLynchImprts) Proprietor-Viticulteur: Robert Jasmin/Ampuis 1981: Very dark color w/ some bricking intense smokey/smoked meats/Rhonish/roasted/pungent/forest floor bit blackberry/Syrah quite complex beautiful classic mature C-R nose; fairly tart/tangy very strong smokey/NRhonish/pungent/smokey meats bit drying out slight blackberry/spicy/Syrah quite complex flavor w/ light rather drying/tired tannins; very long/lingering classic mature C-R/smoked meats/smokey/NRhonish/pungent slight Syrah/blackberry some drying out complex finish w/ light drying tannins; a beautiful example of a fully mature C-R but on its last legs on the palate.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. We had Sue over for a long lunch on Sat and she pulled this btl from her cellar. When I first opened it, the nose had a bit of herbal/leaf pile/fusty nose that cleared over the next hlf hour to a classic mature C-R. The next morning, it still had a wonderful complex nose but was pretty tired & dried out on the palate.

thanks for that review, Tom; I think my favorite Cote-Rotie wines ever have been from Robert Jasmin. Don't think I ever had the '81; it must have been a beauty once!
I don't know just how I'm supposed to play this scene, but I ain't afraid to learn...
