A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Roman hails from the Ukraine. He makes a genuine Ukrainian Borscht that is out of this world. He is also a bread baker, par excellence. So his Borscht is just an excuse to sop up w/ bread. I ate a whole loaf myself at table.
We generally like a PinotNoir with his Borscht. The two we had (Drew & Ojai) didn't particularly work well. But the Trousseau, w/ its earthy character, was a somewhat better match.

2. Trousseau: These Trousseaus originally came to Calif in the late 1800's and planted at the Jackson Station in the Sierra Foothills, closed around 1920. In 1989; UC/Davis went into the vnyd (totally untended for yrs) and brought back to Davis what varieties they could identify, Trousseau being one (Refosco another, that was later identified by DNA to be Mondeuse). Trousseau is known in Portugal as Bastardo. So Matt's planting of Trousseau marks its return to the SierraFoothills. The wine is made with 100% stem inclusion.
I have no idea what the "O.D.B." stands for. Probably "Old Dead Bastard".
