Lockdown Wine #75. Very dark and opaque, with just a tinge of brick. Quite a complex nose. All ripe black fruit at first, giving way to earth and a bit of barnyard, and then later savory, peppery spice. The rather fierce tannins that were very prominent in this wine's youth have melted away. There's still a bit of it going on, but the wine is certainly very approachable, and nothing that a bit of food can't fix. Rich, with a lot of ripe, sweet black fruit. Grilled meat, dried herbs, coffee beans as well. Very nicely put together. The 14% alcohol doesn't show at all. The earthiness is also apparent on the palate. Maybe just approaching peak. Good length. Savory, meaty finish.Excellent.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.
