WTN: Yalumba The Signature Cabernet Shiraz 2013

by Jay Labrador » Thu Dec 10, 2020 8:26 am

Lockdown Wine #74. The Signature Cab Shiraz blend is my favorite line from Yalumba. Decant for 2 hours as tannins are pretty strong. Espresso, anise, licorice, and black berries. Fruit is ripe but there's a good dose of acidity that tempers it. Put together very well. Nicely integrated. Good length. Sweet and crunchy fruit on the finish, although even after 2 hours of air the tannins can still be a bit tough. Needs a steak or 5 more years in the bottle.

Nice.

What are the percentages in the blend if you know?

Doesn't say on the label, and googling around, including the Yalumba site, doesn't seem to give any information on it either.

Do The Signatures usually age well, Jay? I have one bottle left of the 2001. In 2017, I said of it "...at age 16 it's merely chronologically older and it lacks the secondary development one cellars a wine 16 years for." Another five years might be just a drop in the bucket.

I don't have notes of other Signatures I've tried, but I don't remember having one older than maybe 10 years, so can't say for sure. I based my recommendation on the tannins more than anything else. But you might be right. Yalumba says 15++ years cellaring and on the bottle I think it says cellar up to 2033 if I recall correctly.
