2002 Breton Bourgueil Trinch!
This tastes evolved, blocky, and not very special. It feels as if whatever tannins were once present have long since eaten away at the wine, so that it is gnawing in on itself with no grip whatsoever, but with plenty of blocky fruit left to confuse the drinker during that process.

1996 Rochepertuis Cornas
This starts out tasting too evolved, sour, and messy for its own good. But, luckily it comes around with air as the fruit fills in to provide a lovely drink that hints towards meaty olive syrah sap before being clipped both from expanding in the mouth and on the finish by the acids that mark it as a 96. But, it went very well with the skate and monkfish adorned with tapenade and ginger/sage polenta plus roasted carrots and beets that accompanied my lovely Valentine across the table.

Hmmm, blocky . . . I'll bite, what is blocky?

Lovely note on the Trinch!, though, it isn't often a tasting note can be so terrifying . . .

One of our tasting couples brought a bottle of 2005 Breton Bourgueil Trinch! to our Cabernet Franc tasting last October. I liked it quite a bit, and selected it as my favorite in that evening's blind tasting. Was 2002 a weak vintage or is this simply a drink young wine?

I was referring to the structure, a bit square yet awkward.

I enjoy Trinch! one or two years after release, but this was my first experience with one that had more age. Some people get enjoyment from it at this stage, and are still drinking the 00, but personally I don't need anymore of this 02.
