2015 Bodega Chacra Pinot Noir Barda Río Negro, Patagonia
A great pinot from the grandson of Sassicaia's founder. Unfiltered and complex with none of the skunky weirdness I associate with Latin American pinots (albeit, those were mostly Chilean). Red and black raspberries, with cool-climate forest notes and shades of mint and loam. Blind would have guessed New Zealand, new world that is with a foot in the old. Got better and better in the glass. This won a lot of critical raves on release, I get why.

They do good work. I enjoy most of the Patagonian wines I try. Less likely to be over the top versus wines from Mendoza.

We loved it. Haven't had many Patagonians at all but my understanding of the geography suggests these would totally be in my wheelhouse. I've ordered some chardonnays, too.

Didn't Suckling just anoint one of this producer's pinots as #1 wine of year, king of all the 100 score wines?

Could be! I don't subscribe to any of the wine rags any more and where hearing about ratings is somewhat unavoidable I favorably notice a few (Tanzer, Galloni) but totally tune out Suckling. :)
