Giacomo Borgogno Barbera d'Alba 2019 - c.18€; 14,5% abv
Lovely aromas of sour cherry; slightly herbal and floral. Proper bite here and none of that wimpy over-oaked sweet soft plump oak juice that modernist Barbera is. Oh my goodness how I love proper acidity in Barbera. But there is a strange amount of ripeness here too - a genuine sweet edge to the fruit that is a bit weird to see outside of the modernists. But I can forgive that. I'm not opposed to sweet fruit when there is acidity to counter it and this certainly has that required amount of acidity. This is just incredible juicy fun with proper bite and therefore to my weird tastes the moreishness is out of this world. Which might be a problem tomorrow morning since I now look at the markings on the bottle and the alcohol is much higher than I thought it was from the taste alone. Oh well, I'll go drink plenty of water now and hope for the best. Buy again? I suspect this will be a pretty regular bottle on my table.
