WTN: Mounts PS '09

by John Treder » Sun Nov 22, 2020 11:35 pm

People have been dissing PS lately, and I sorta kinda like the stuff. So I'm weird.
Mounts is a small family winery high on the west bench of Dry Creek Valley. They farm about 40 acres and sell most of their fruit. The second generation is doing the farming nowadays. Tom Hill can probably tell you more than you want to know about them.
Partly because of the discussions here, and partly because my new wine database that I wrote is beginning to actually be useful,
I found this bottle in my cellar.
Tasted on opening and an hour later. Very dark color, good aroma for my bad nose, rich and earthy on the palate, moderately long. Very little of the raw tannin/acid that can make PS so unpleasant.
A couple of days later, very smooth and rich. Great with braised short ribs.

I don't diss PS. I really like it from the right producers.
