Dipping into my recent arrivals, I tried over the last two days:
1. Bedrock PaperaRasnch Heritage RRV/SonomaCnty (Plntd: 1934; Block 6; 14.5%) 2018: Ver dark/near black color; intense blackberry/boysenberry/Zin/ripe/very spicy quite dusty/OV some smokey/toasty/oak light RRV Zin/peppery some complex nose; quite tart/tangy/bit metallic intense blackberry/boysenberry/very spicy/peppery/Zin some toasty/oak rather dusty/OV some complex lively flavor w/ ample brisk/chewey tannins; very long some tart/tangy structured intense blackberry/boysenberry/ripe/very spicy/peppery some toasty/oak bit complex finish w/ some chewey tannins; a pretty classic RRV Zin w/ lots of classic Bedrock style; needs 4-8 yrs; quite structured & needs age; a beautiful Papera. $42.00

Carlisle Zin PaperaRanch RRV/SonomaCnty (15.0%; Plntd: 1934 by Celestino Papera; 1010cs) 2018: Very dark/near black color; intense blackberry/boysenberry/Zin/spicy/licorice light earthy some toasty/smokey/oak fairly black pepper/RRV Zin ather dusty/OV bit more complex lovely classic RRV Zin nose; lightly tart bit alcoholic/ripe very strong blackberry/Zin/very spicy rather RRV/black pepper some dusty/OV some toasty/oak bit complex flavor w/ modest ripe/bitey tannins; very long/lingering intense blackberry/boysenberry/licorice/Zin/quite spicy fairly dusty/OV some toasty/oak bit complex finish w/ ample chewey tannins; needs more age; a beautiful rendition of Papera Zin. $39.50

1. So....Carlisle/Bedrock...mano a mano. Which was the better of the two?? Well....you couldn't tell from my above TN's, that's for sure. I'll wuss out & call it a toss-up. Both spoke very strongly of Papera Ranch. The Bedrock is a bit more ripe/rich/lush. The Carlisle a bit more interesting & structured. I had Susan shuffle them up & tasted them blind. I couldn't tell w/ any confidence one from the other and luckily guess the Carlisle right. Bot both a beautiful expressions of PaperaRanch Zin.
