Lockdown Wine #68. I'm a sucker for weird wines, and this one qualifies. Made by Mathieu Deiss, who also runs the family firm of Marcel Deiss. This is a blend of 60% Riesling and 40% Pinot Gris vinified separately by semi-carbonic maceration for 10 days in stainless steel, and blended and aged 10 months in stainless steel. Organic, biodynamic, and orange.
Pink/orange. At first something organic and earthy on the nose. Later on, Fox Glacier Fruit candies. A bit spritzy. Pepper, spice, orange rind, sweet pomelo, pear. Light, light tannins. Good length. Quite a fresh style. Medium-bodied. Enough stuffing to go head to head with a rather spicy tripe stew.
Although I haven't had a lot of orange wines, most of the ones I've had were not really to my taste. The ones of Gravner are the exception. I would say, after Gravner, this is the best one I've tried.
