2019 Wagner-Stempel Riesling Neu Bamberg "Rotliegend" - Germany, Rheinhessen (11/13/2020)
By way of reintroduction, I ordered a mixed case of twelve different 2019 Wagner-Stempel wines. This was the first. Cracked open the screw cap at quitting time, and had a quick sip. Let the bottle sit for ninety minutes until dinner. An hour after dinner, and it is still unfolding. There’s still a slight hint of reduction, but after that the palate lays out like a red (white) carpet, with cool yellow fruit and an undercurrent of green herbs and salty minerals. Saved a glass for tomorrow, so we’ll see where it goes, but it’s an excellent start.

One of the glories of German wines. So many bottlings!

And I skipped two that were offered!

I have seen Stempel from time to time but none in the cellar. Good buy David.
