WTN: EdmundsStJohn Heart of Gold '14 & '15...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Wed Nov 11, 2020 1:14 pm

Tried these two last night:
1. EdmundsStJohn Heart of Gold ElDorado WW (11.3%; 62% Vermentino/38% GrenacheBlanc) ThumbNailMoon/Fairplay 2014: Med.light gold color; lovely very perfumed Verm/floral/gardenias/honeysuckle/spicy slight petrol/pungent bit perfumed talc fairly complex beautiful aromatic nose; fairly tart/tangy bit rich/lush strong Verm/floral/gardenias slight earthy/pungent/petrol/perfumed talc slight metallic/chalky/tangy bit complex lovely flavor; very long bright/brisk/tangy/tart fairly strong Verm/floral/gardenias slight petrol/perfumed talc/chalky lovely finish; very interesting somewhat complex nose w/ plenty of flavor on the palate; far more into JuliaRoberts territory than DollyParton; reminds a lot of Ligurian Pigato but not as saline.

2. EdmundsStJohn Heart of Gold ElDorado WW (11.5%; 53% Vermentino/47% GrenacheBlanc) 2015: Med.light gold color; some appley/pear/bit Viog-like slight floral/honeysuckle more restrained slight chalky/earthy quite pretty nose; fairly tart/tangy more restrained/savory/bit saline some Verm/floral/gardenias/appley not quite as rich bit eartht/mineral quite pretty flavor; long fairly tart/tangy some appley/Verm/floral fairly savory bit mineral/perfumed talc lovely finish; a bit more saline/Pigato-like in character w/ a bit less Verm fruit; quite a pretty white.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. I liked both these HoG quite a lot. Both have fairly anemic alcohol levels but not at all thin/eviscerated and have plenty of flavor & aromatics, something many in the IPoB crowd never quite figured out.

hadn't noticed this post until just now, but was glad to see it, because I think the '14 is one of the best HoGs so far, Tom; glad you enjoyed it. The '18 is the other one I've been most excited by.
I don't know just how I'm supposed to play this scene, but I ain't afraid to learn...

Indeed. Low ABV does not have to mean low flavor or screeching acidity. There are a few winemakers I would like to get that message.
