WTN: Bedrock Compagni-Portis '11...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Nov 10, 2020 1:52 pm

Tried this last night for my white:
1. Bedrock Compagni-PortisVnyd/SonomaVlly WW (13.8%; Plntd: 1954; Pharmed: Phil Coturri) 2011: Med.light gold color; quite fragrant floral/spicy/marigolds/slight pungent light nutty/oxidative/petrol bit earthy/dusty slight pencilly/oak quite complex nose; lightly tart fairly rich/lush some nutty/pungent/petrol/oxidative some floral/appley/marigolds/bit pungent/musky slight lemony/earthy/dusty quite complex flavor; very long/lingering some petrol/nutty/oxidative some floral/marigolds/pungent/musky some pencilly/oak quite complex finish; lost a lot of that perfumed/aromatic fruit of its youth but has developed a really interesting pungent complexity; no signs of going over the hill anytime soon; quite an interesting/exotic older/mature white.

1. I was pretty impressed on the track of maturing this wine has taken. I was expecting it to still be a lot of primary fruit. It reminded me mostly of an older Alsatian GWT w/o the GWT aromatics, a bit of an older Alsatian PG. Some of an older Oz Semillon w/o the oak & acid. Some of an older (non-VinoMacerati) Friuli RibollaGialla. Whatever...pretty exotic stuff.

Interesting.

I have one bottle of the 2019, and I am debating whether to open ASAP or wait a while. Thoughts?

Well, David..... depends upon if you prefer Beyonce or Sophia Loren!! :-)

I'd give it a year & enjoy it for its bold fruit. It's prolly not going to turn into some of those old Rieslings that you have
tons of.

My fall Bedrock shipment is set to arrive this week. Had been delayed about 6 weeks due to Glass Fire. Should receive the following, 2019 vintage:

Old Vine Zinfandel, CA
Evangelho Heritage, Contra Costa
Wirz Vineyard, Cienega
Compagni Portis, Sonoma Cty, Sonoma Vly
Staves, Sonoma Valley

Last 2 were granted wish requests. Any thoughts on drinking windows, experience, etc. most welcome. Noted above input on Compagni Portis.

I already opened a 2019 OVZ. Loved it. The Staves would seem to be a relatively near term drinker. No matter the name, it’s still Sauvignon Blanc.

The Evangelho is the thoroughbred of your list.
