WTN: Two Quirky Whites....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Thu Oct 22, 2020 3:26 pm

Had these last night w/ Susan and chicken salad on puff pastry:
1. Solminer Dry Riesling CoquelicotVnyd/LosOlivosDist (13%; 194 cs; www.Solminer.com) 2018: Med.dark gold color; very light phenolic/ViniMacerati/resiny rather mineral/slatey/chalky bit Mosel valve oil/pungent very light mango/R very interesting/exotic complex nose; quite tart/tangy/acidic/steely very light mango/R/floral bit herbal bit pungent/petrol very unusual flavor; very long very slight VM/phenolic/resiny some mineral/chalky bit petrol finish; a rather bizarre expression of Calif R unlike any R I can recall. $34.00
_______________
2. Matthiasson NapaVlly WW (12.1%; 49% SauvBlanc/23% RibollaGialla/23% Semillon/5% TocaiFriulano) 2018: Med.gold color; rather melony/ripe/SB light floral/figgy quite aromatic unusual complex nose; quite tart/tangy ripe/melony/SB bit floral/peppery/figgy/spicy very slight pencilly/oak perfumed very unusual flavor; very long/lingering quite tart/tangy mostly melony/ripe SB/bit herbal some floral/figgy/peppery/spicy very light pencilly/oak quite unusual/exotic finish; a bit like a Friuli SB but not as strongly SB in character; no signs of skin-contact; a wine that would be right at home as a tajut at LaSubida in Cormons. $40.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Solminer R: This wine is a real puzzle to me. It had a low-key character of having some skin-contact in fermentation. Yet their WebSite on this wine makes no mention of that. So I don't know what wine I had, but I thought it rather interesting. I will retaste it in a few days.
