2018 Domaine de la Mordorée Tavel Cuvée de la Reine des Bois Rose
Has really come into balance over 8 months since we last opened one. It's back to the blood orange, tarragon and red rose petal range one hopes for with acidity and savory qualities more apparent than last time. Great finish--at cellar temp, a perfect pairing for chicken paprikash.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

A visit to Tavel about 20 years ago got me onto the great roses here - the only region in the world where all production is rose - but does anyone have any knowledge of how or if Tavel is responding to the Provence style rose phenomemon?

The typical pale, light, dry rose from the Provence region seems to have quickly become the architype for roses around the world, and sales of rose have exploded in the last 10 years or so. Every producer seems to make a rose now, and production has expanded almost everywhere. Tavel is usually greeted by my non wine geeky friends as almost an abomination due to its much deeper colour alone, not to mention its greater power (and usually alcohol levels). It doesn't fit the new paradigm, and I wonder if the producers there are trying anything different (e.g., earlier picking, less time on skins) to join the global rose bandwagon. Or have their sales been carried by the rising tide despite being so different from the norm?
