The Glass fire

by John Treder » Sun Oct 11, 2020 10:28 pm

There was a long article in today's (Sunday's) Santa Rosa Press Democrat about the effects of the fire on various wineries in Sonoma and Napa counties. The link is www.pressdemocrat.com.
It seems that the fire concentrated itself in a couple of areas: The first on the east slope of Howell Mountain, and the second along Hwy 128 just southeast of Calistoga.
The Glass fire doesn't seem to have done much damage in Sonoma county, though Ledson came close to burning (but it didn't), and some vineyards in the Kenwood area seem to have had some damage.

Received an e-mail from Myriad today. Below is an excerpt. Hope this info is helpful to Myriad/Quivet fans.

"2020 Vintage

The 2020 vintage is one that is full of speculation and a lot of unknown. Basically, it is too soon to know the full story. What we can say for sure is - Quivet Cellars was able to harvest ALL vineyards, however, Myriad Cellars lost three vineyards due to smoke damage from the glass fire. Sadly, Myriad will NOT have a Round Pond Cabernet, Three Twins Cabernet or a 2020 Sangiacomo Syrah. All the rest of the vineyards were harvested, showing no smoke and all testing is clear. Mike says we will know more in the coming months, but from what he sees, his 2020 vintage looks, smells and tastes like the Mike Smith wine you know and love. We love his optimism and positivity! "

Between the virus and the fires (3 main ones in Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino and Lake counties), wineries, especially the small ones that I love, have suffered greatly this year. I admire the dogged determination of my friends who take on the challenges of farming grapes and making wine. It's not for the faint of heart.
