I just returned from a hectic ten day French trip. One of the highlights was tasting through the yet unbottled 2005s at Louis Carillon. Here are some very quick notes:
2005 Puligny-Montrachet
Precise and powerful. Creamy yellow apple, pineapple, underlying flint and stone, elegant and rich at once.
2005 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru
Sharp and crunchy -Pear skin, machintosch apples, steel, more class and length than the village PM
2005 Puligny-Montrachet Les Perrieres 1er Cru
Red apples this time, pineapple, toast, beurre blanc, rocky, marshmallow. Everything is BIGGER and more plentiful, fruit, acid, mineral. Stunningly good.
2005 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru
The most generous and showy of the 1er Crus. Big and Meursault-like, but not as sappy. Beautiful apple fruit, toffee, caramel, tin mineral, elegant finish.
2005 Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru (Barrel Sample)
Intense exotic fruit -pineapple, guava, papaya, almonds, fresh from the flower pollen and steel. BIG fruit, but with punch and bite almost like Riesling. An Amazing wine.
Prost!
