WTN: Carmel by the Sea

2016 Sandhi Wines Chardonnay Mt. Carmel - USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills (10/4/2020)
Fascinating wine that provides a different window on the Santa Rita Hills appellation. Initially reductive in the struck match mold, it later shows angular citrus and underripe tropical notes, that are then anchored to the ground by a mineral base as firm as the rocks of Stonehenge. I honestly cannot say that drinking this was a sensory pleasure, but it was intellectually fascinating. I’ll leave my other bottle for a multi-year sleep, just to see what might happen.
