Valentine`s Day...what are we thinking of opening?

I know there are a few romantics around this place so what plans do you have for that extra special bottle?

For myself after helping out at the Grill, a bottle of Chenin Blanc from Rudera SA.

1996 Rochepertuis Cornas. The most "romantic" wine I know.

Hey Bob,

The missus and I are opening a bottle of the '88 Calon-Segur to accompany the rack of lamb I'm preparing for dinner.

With dessert we're thinking of the '77 Barros Colheita Port.

Then this weekend we're off to a B&B in Jasper where I'm sure we'll open some other "special" bottles.

Dönhoff -- many possible selections here -- my go to wine for romance in this house. :)

Trying to decide between two Italian reds... a Sagrantino di Montefalco or a Rosso di Montepulciano purchased on my honeymoon.
I can certainly see that you know your wine. Most of the guests who stay here wouldn't know the difference between Bordeaux and Claret.

Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows

We've decided to go 'cheesey' in our wine choice... Amarone

1997 Speri, Monte Sant'Urbano Amarone to be precise

I'm planning on opening a Tissot NV Cremant du Jura with king crab, crab cakes and a toss salad. I'v been eager to try this sparkler as a new local retailer has started to carry it.

Since I'm working at the restaurant tomorrow night (I'm a part time food runner at a great restaurant in Pittsburgh), I'm going to be drinking whatever the nice customers leave for the staff! :P

As long as it's Merlot or Shiraz, my Sweetheart will be happy. But we'll probably pick it from the restaurant menu. (To be honest, I am more looking forward to the roasted veggies followed by a nice calzone than the wine.)
And now what?

I'm going to a V-day winemaker's dinner, "Love in a Glass," with Eleven Winery's Matt Albee:

We'll be going through pretty much Matt's entire lineup, which shows a lot of restraint, and even a touch of old-world character. He's surely an up-and-comer on the Washington scene.

We planned on going out to a very nice romantic Italian restaurant, but the weatherman may have other plans. So we have lamb in the fridge, and a big jammy CA Syrah in the cellar in wait!

Your Sagrantino will be fuller bodied than the Rosso di Montepulciano. Who os the producer for Sagrantino, Ryan?

We are heading out to a very fine local restaurant, right on the harbor. We'll be bringing along a bottle of 1998 Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe Chateauneuf-du-Pape Vieux Mas des Papes. Now there's a real mouthful ... in more ways than one.

I opened a white last night and the wife felt left out, so she opened the bottle I was planning on opening tonight. Vignabaldo Sagrantino di Montefalco 2002.

I only had a taste but it was excellent. More flavorful than I'd originally thought.

Bob, I wish I had access to more SA chenins here in my BAWS. sadly there isn't. I have picked up a few of the Ken Forrester wines when I go to Michigan for Mo'Cool, but never have I seen one in Lexington. I might have to look into that.

Betsy's making a duck breast in orange sauce. I think the sauce will kill my usual PN, so thinking off-dry Chenin, Riesling, or maybe Gewurz.

Ja ist der Schnee, der fällt. We are definitely into Plan B at this point. It's is shaping up as lamb with brown rice pilaf, eggplant salad, and a big Zin (don't have a suitably ripe Syrah right now).

Assuming I deciphered the label correctly [not 100% I did], it's Vignabaldo.

Was very good and definitely fuller, just like you said. I'm hoping it holds up tonight.

I am sure it will. Interesting - I have ever had wines from this producer. I go to Umbria often as I direct a choral and cultural program there. I'll have to check this one out next time I am there. Do you like it?
