West Coast wildfire casualties

by Paul Winalski » Sat Sep 19, 2020 5:11 pm

This afternoon I received email from Chateau Montelena. They harvested most of their sauvignion blanc and chardonnay before the smoke reached them. They are optimistic about those wines. But the cabernet sauvignon and zinfandel have been irretrievably damaged by the smoke. Neither of those wines will be made in the 2020 vintage.

Are there any reports from other wineries on fire and smoke damage?

Big Basin (Santa Cruz Mtns) winery was destroyed by fire.

Rhys will make no SCM wines.
