Matetic Coralillo, 2012, San Antonio Valley, Chile. Notes based on 3 days of tasting.
Ruby fading to crimson. Excellent clarity. Aromas are earth dominant: forest floor, mushroom, even barnyard. Raspberry, cherry clearly present. Just hints of cinnamon, clove, light toast. On the palate, the earthiness is more clear. Medium legs, medium body, medium plus finish, medium plus acidity. Texture is polished, yet smooth. Impression: Clear presence of spices is lacking, otherwise varietally correct. Seems like it's trying for Burgundian. Complexity is there for me, due to the earthiness. At $32 with tax & shipping, QPR clearly below average. Don't regret the purchase for the experience. There are, however, many decent Chilean PNs available under $20. Screwcap. Drink now.
