WTN: wine group on patio- Bdx,Hermitage, Auxey, Vouvray, etc

Friday I got out my tape measure for seat placement, and welcomed my local non-serious wine group. Everyone got a place with cheeses, smoked duck, soppresata. I grilled some sausages (lamb merguez, bratwurst, fennel) and squash, everyone had own tongs for retrieval

Jousset “rose a Lies”
50/50 Groulleau & Gamay, pet nat. Good crispness, fresh strawberries and minty green herb, fun. B

2005 Huet “Clos du Bourg” Vouvray Sec

Fred blinded us with this. At first pour it was worrisomely dark, with some strong cidery notes. It freshened up, Wool and wax, a little softer acidity than I expected, good finish, B/B+

The rest were my wines, served blind
2013 Brunet “Arpent” Vouvray
First guesses were Sancerre. Dry and high acid (at least compared to the ‘05 Huet), fruit cocktail and honey, not a ton of complexity. B-

1983 Jaboulet “La Chapelle” Hermitage
Really nice showing, I’ve had varied previous experiences. Tannins resolved, elegant and ready (others’ first guesses were Burgundy). Black fruits, smoked meat, a little leather. I’ll drink others from this lot over next couple years (happily). A-
.
2011 Lafouge “La Chapelle” Auxey-Duresses 1er
Young, red fruit, a little anise and smoke, tangy and long. Very good for vintage. B+

(I’d originally thought I had a ‘98 La Chapelle de LMHB, was going to have an impossible theme for the guys to guess, but I had drunk it, so the Sociando was a sub)

1986 Sociando-Mallet
Still some grip, sturdy black fruit accented with gamebird, green herbs, and cedar. No hurry here. B+/A-

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C
drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

I have a few 2005 Huets left. Now I am very curious.

Is there a wine that, for sentimental reasons, you just can't pass up when you see one? Red Auxey-Duresses are, for me, that wine. I was living in Alaska when I tasted my first Burgundies at a very expensive tasting of ten 1990 vintage red burgs. Went into that room thinking I didn't like pinot noir and having never spent more than $30 for a bottle of red wine and left with Leroy Auxey Duress and some DRC's. Most life-changing wine thing I ever did.

I have not been able to pass up an Auxey Duress since, and I only recently picked up some Lafouge. Haven't tasted one yet but your note increased my anticipation.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Me too but did post a TN 2 yrs ago I think.

WTN: 2005 Huet Vouvray Le Mont Sec, Loire Valley.

I was fortunate to buy a small assortment of Domaine Huet Vouvrays 2 years ago, 10% off. The wines were not moving off the shelf at all so I was in the right place at the right time! They were mainly from 2005 and `09.

Great looking natural cork, $35 Cdn, 13%alc. No Lot number apparent but did see 05MTS?
I did not decant but left open 2 hrs prior to tasting. Medium lemon in color, no real hint of gold.
Lovely aromatics over two days, initially pear, floral, lanolin, not honeyed. Lime developes nicely, some apple and nuts on second day.
Initial entry thought is off-dry, terrific acidity flows on from mid-palate which shows some elegance. Very good level of depth here, think at its prime. The underlying minerality is a big plus for me with added flavors of apple, pear and peach. Not a lot of sweetness apparent even on day 2 but then it is a Sec!!
At the end of the year, this CB will be right up there in memory.
