WTN: Three Carlisle PetiteSirahs '07...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon Sep 14, 2020 1:54 pm

Had these three over the last few days:
1. Carlisle PetiteSirah DryCreekVlly (14.8%; 85 cs) 2007: Black color w/ some bricking; strong blackberry/PS slight earthy/peppery some toasty/oak fairly classic clunky/oafish/PS nose; soft bit hot/alcoholic strong blackberry/boysenberry/PS slight peppery some toasty/oak flavor w/ light ripe/drying tannins; very long soft slight tangy/metallic strong blackberry/PS/boysenberry slight peppery bit oafish finish w/ light tangy tannins; a fairly classic oafish PS & not as distinctive as the other two; still plenty of PS but starting to show that metallic edge and not going to get any better.
_________
2. Carlisle PetiteSirah YorkvilleHighlands (14.1%; 155 cs) 2007: Very dark/near black color w/ slight bricking; very strong blackberry/boysenberry/PS some black pepper modest toasty/oak bit earthy fairly complex nose; soft very strong blackberry/boysenberry/PS/ripe bit peppery/earthy some toasty/oak slight tangy/metallic flavor w/ light ripe/soft tannins; very long strong blackberry/PS/boysenberry/ripe/slight peppery modest toasty/oak finish w/ light ripe tannins; a pretty classic PS that has softened but not really developed much complexity; pretty tasty but ready to drink up.
_________
3. Carlisle PetiteSirah PalisadesVnyd/NapaVlly (15.0%; 40 yr old vines; 115 cs) 2007: Black color w/ slight bricking; intense ripe/boysenberry/blackberry/PS/licorice/peppery light toasty/pencilly/oak slight dusty/OV/earthy nose; soft slight minty/menthol intense blackberry/boysenberry/licorice/peppery light toasty/oak fairly dusty/OV slight alcoholic/ripe chocolaty/ripe flavor w/ light smooth tannins; very long/lingering intense boysenberry/blackberry/ripe PS/licorice/chocolaty light toasty/oak finish w/ light smooth/ripe tannins; still loads of primary PS fruit but tannins have moderated & not much complexity developed; probably as good as it'll ever be.
_______________
A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Of these three PS, I found the YorkvilleHighlands a bit more interesting & balanced (if you can call it that) but the Palisades has still massive fruit but I doubt it'll ever develop much complexity. Something rare to find in PS.
