WTN: Here's the beef!

2001 Tertre Rôteboeuf St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend

I haven't had all that many high-end garagiste wines from Bordeaux, but of those I've had this producer is my favorite--all three vintages I've had anyway. It's not uber old school but neither it is soullessly modern, it hits a point in between that's both fresh and sexy, even almost 20 years out. Ready immediately upon opening, so decanted only to remove sediment (none found). We swooned from the first sip, this is a Ferrari in a glass, stylish power in a very smart frame. Some barnyard with joyful dark red fruits and loads of mint, round and minerally on the palate. Impressive and satisfying.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

I have never had that wine but am wondering when to open my 2000 Calon Segur?

We have reached that point when “whenever” is likely an appropriate answer. Since we’ve hit age 20 I am planning to open a few other 2000s soon if you want to see some data points. Unfortunately I do not own Calon.

Jim, Calon Segur is a tricky one in 2000. I have a friend who says they're 'just not coming around' and the last five notes posted on CT are consistent with that. In fact, it's so unanimous (remarkable for that site where worthy opinions are usually diluted by less informed ones) the early drinking window is shown as 2024. Basically, everyone says 'wait' because what should be there now just isn't.

Thanks Jenise. I have other wines I can focus on. 4 years is not to long to wait.
