BR: The Goode Guide to Wine...

by TomHill » Sun Aug 30, 2020 6:14 pm

Just got ystrday JamieGoode's new book "The Goode Guide to Wine... A Manifesto of Sorts". It is a collection of 55 chapters on a plethora of wine topics that Jamie wishes to share his thoughts on. I've read 5-6 now and find them fascinating and very thought provoking. Don't always agree with his thoughts, but it does make you think and question your own take on the subject.
An easy read, you can pick it up, read a few chaptres, then put it down & pick it up later.
A highly recommended read IMHO.

Finished reading Jamie's book today. My enthusiasm for it has waned somewhat.
It's a mashup/unfocused collection of his thoughts and a large variety of wine subjects. I particularly liked Chapter 27 in which he writes a very sarcastic letter to wine writers (read Robert Parker) who continually denigrate the natural wine movement.
But many of the chapters leave me with the feeling of "meh". This is kinda obvious and who could object. Why is this important?
Still, it's an easy read. But I usually walk away from Jamie's writing feeling like I learned something new. Not particularly so in this case.

Anything Tom finds some redeeming value to I no doubt would learn a lot from. I'll get The Goode Guide.
