WA White Wines

by Pat G » Wed Aug 19, 2020 7:13 pm

This article is a long slog, but I found it fascinating.

https://goodvitis.com/washingtons-chall ... ite-wines/

Checked my modest cellar. 1 White, 9 Reds. Reds include Columbia Valley, Walla Walla, Yakima Valley.
I'm not surprised.

Hope that some of you enjoy the article. Cheers!

Washington really needs to get the word out. I see more wines from Finger Lakes NY of late..and zero from Washington.

Good article, lots of detail. Thanks for posting it.

Perhaps in a different vintage, but I've had every one of the wines he cites specifically as being above average, and of course many he doesn't mention at all. Unfortunately, though, the white wine problem is pretty universal on the planet. Names like Kistler, Aubert and Marcassin aside, and excluding regions like Burgundy, whites do not command the same respect because the public at large is ignorant and many collector/big cellar types are ambivalent about any white that isn't bubbles.

At our house, we're about 50/50 these days, a big increase on the white side from 20 years ago.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
