WTN: 2005 Branaire-Ducru

by Dale Williams » Wed Aug 12, 2020 12:43 pm

For our Monday zoom group, the 2005 Ch. Branaire-Ducru (with dry aged shell steak, potato salad, cousa squash). Decanted 2 hours before serving. Lovely and balanced, ripe cassis and herb notes, with just a touch of incipient cigarbox. Surprisingly easy tannins for ‘05 , structured but easy to drink. Some thought at it’s best, I’d expect definite improvement for my tastes. A-

Sounds delicious, but yeah...time is on its side.

I hardly bought any '05s, and the one or two I have had were awfully ripe. But I love this producer, always elegant. Among my favorites in that slew of '98's I bought for crazy stupid low prices when a distributor in So Cal went out of business during the Freedom Fry backlash after 9/11.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

I'm sitting on some of this and appreciate the early note, but I'm with David on it - time will improve it. I might schedule a bottle for early assessment next year, though.
