Josef Biffar Wachenheimer Goldbächel Riesling Auslese 1989 10,5% AP AP 5 106 026 05 90
Complex, floral, a little earthy, extremely Rieslingy nose. The palate is maybe a touch soft (warm year was it?), but with nice bitterness and pure Rieslingyness to it. It has adequate acidity. Long aftertaste. A wine that brought a much needed smile to my face.
Töövi Pinot Noir Brosseau Vineyard, Chalone 2005
This is made in Crush by a friend of mine. It's not a style of wine that I particularily like. It's big and sweet, but the pinosity factor is still high.
It is 50% new oak, but that is well integrated. It is 14,3%, but also is integrated. Rather it is the style - big, big, big - which I don't like: it tastes like typical Cali Pinot minus the horrible confected oak. I do admit that it is a fine example if you like a bigger Pinot than I do. I am pretty sure that I'm not saying this just because it's made by friend of mine.
