For your holiday weekend (in Canada) virtual enjoyment I opened a Clos Pepe Estate Vigernon Select 2014 pinot noir. This was Wes Hagen’s last year as wine maker at the estate and this wine was one of his best! Deep nose of black cherries and forest floor just after a spring rain. Gorgeous deep ruby colour with a midpalate that is a beautifully balanced mix of red and dark fruits, juicy acidity and silky tannins. A seriously long finish of delicious fruit and acidity to add to the pure drinking delight!
With food
Spiced rubbed pork tenderloin with spiralized zucchini
Tonight’s dinner featured pork tenderloin barbecued on charcoal so that it had a nice char! The sautéed zucchini had shiitake mushrooms and red onions. The pinot wine pairing was the best of the year so far with the wine and spicy pork with a dollop of freshly homemade cherry-raspberry jam resulting in an explosion of sweet and spicy cherries and raspberries in the midpalate. And my wife suggested this addition. Gotta love a wife who comes up with palate pleasing ideas! A match all wine lovers strive for but only achieve occasionally! Wow, what a palate pleaser!
