Wines from a very different new producer are making the rounds. He's located in Etna, California. There are two labels, though I don't know why. Methode Sauvage and Iruai.
We had a 2018 Iruai blend called Cascade-Shasta. I immediately guessed Trousseau, and was right that's 35% or so of the blend, and the other two are Mondeuse and Blaufrankish. Trousseau for spice, Mondeuse for perfume and the Blau's there to round everything out, according to the winemaker. Loved the light tone, racy acidity and spice right off the bat. We sipped it during a Zoom meeting and set the rest of the bottle aside for later. Later, it had turned cloudy and the flavors so initially refreshing were muddled and confused. We had to toss it out.
A few days later we got to taste the 2019 Methode Sauvage 'Blood and Flowers' Sonoma County Syrah. Violets on the nose and blue fruit all over the palate that straddled a curious sense of sweet/sour. Sweet ripe fruit dominated by yeasty sourish notes that tasted raw, not quite VA but unfinished like a barrel sample sometimes does. Not thrilled.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
