New Wine&Spirits Magazine: Great Read

by TomHill » Fri Jul 17, 2020 7:49 pm

The Wine&Spirits magazine is one of the few wine publications that I actually learn something from. The August edition just arrived and was a particularly good read. Articles include:

1. PaleMystery: The resurrection of Palido in the Rueda of Spain, a historic ancient wine aged under a veil of flor yeast...sous voile in the Jura. It's a genre I wish we'd see more of in Calif.

2. Schiava: Describes the resurgent interest in this variety in the SudTirol. I believe they have some planted in Calif, maybe SamBilbro?

3. Beneath The Skins: Talks about Calif vintners farming specifically for making skin-contact whites...ViniMacerati as BobbyStuckey terms them.

4. Valdiguie: Relates the renewed interest in this grape in Calif.

5. Pithari Wine: Relates an increasing interest in Greece in wines frmtd/aged in clay amphorae.

Anyway a very good read. Alas, not available online, so you have to buy it off the newsstand.

They quit doing their on line version? If so that was smart, as their electronic edition was impossible to read. I subscribed for two years, and quit early out of sheer exasperation.
