WTN: Old Wa. Red vs Old Napa Red

To set the scene, I was recently in a wine shop in Ft. Wayne at the 50% off discount table. There was a Andersons Conn Valley Vy. 2003 Eloge. Out the door for 33$ with a loyality 5$ discount. The other wine of interest was a 2004 Gordon Family Tradition Red from Wash. State that was 13$ with also a 5$ loyality discount. I bought both and opened both tonite. The Eloge ( 65% Cab./25%, CF/ 10% Merlot)which I had great hopes for was slightly Maderized on opening. Hope springs eternal so I did not immediately open the other wine. It became increasingly more oxidized and soon became undrinkable. I then opened the Gordon wine with a Napa Cornerstone Special Select as a backup. OMG that Gordon was medium-full bodied of sweet cherry , herb and pipe tobacco and black to the rim. I'm still sniffing that wine as it is so complex and alluring. Both wines were resolved of most tannins but the Eloge maybe had a storage problem as it should have been quite sound. I do not know what the Gordon red was a blend of but will be on the look-out for more.
