Lockdown Wine #38. Celebrated too soon yesterday. Infections still down, but from 0 deaths yesterday, today's tally is the highest in quite some time.
Still had some salad and paté en croûte leftover from last night, so another champagne night for me. This time from the small (4 hectares) house of Florence Duchêne. The vineyards include some Grand Cru in Aÿ and Premier Cru in Hautvilliers and Cumières. Florence Duchêne is half French (father-who owns the vineyards) and half Filipina (mother) so she gives Filipino names to her creations. Di Mangan is a Filipino harvest deity. This is a Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut with 3 g/l sugar, half and half Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, using 20% reserve wines. Steely, crisp, fresh, lemon rind, and white pepper . Just a touch lighter than medium weight. My personal preference tends towards heavier and oxidative styles, but I would happily drink this any time.
I finished half the bottle and poured the rest into a 375 ml screwcap. I've been pretty successful keeping still wines this way if I don;t finish a bottle, but never tried with champagne. Hope it works.
