WTN: 2011 Dönnhoff Estate Riesling

by David M. Bueker » Thu Jul 09, 2020 7:54 pm

2011 Dönnhoff Riesling - Germany, Nahe (7/9/2020)
Nine years post-vintage, and this is the best showing yet. Most of he baby fat of a ripe, lower acid vintage has faded, but the wine still shows a youthful core of peach fruit and cherry-studded pineapple. It’s starting to go through a petrol phase as well, as the wife accurately described mid-weight petroleum distillates that accompany the fruit in the aromatic weave. The palate remains a little more straightforward, with focus on fruit and a healthy dose of acid-driven spine. It’s got all the flavor of three times the wine. $17 back when it came out, current vintages remain the best value German Riesling.

Nice note, David. I just checked CellarTracker and I have six bottles of 2011 vintage German wines, all from Mosel-Saar-Ruwer so may open one later this month.
