1955 Vintage Porto, Taylor

Translucent brick-red with some brown around the edges. Smoke and subdued dark fruit on the nose and palate. The sweetness and alcohol are in good balance. No noticeable tannins. A classic old vintage Port that has aged a lot more gracefully than I have. I prefer vintage Port younger, but this wine is still alive and enjoyable. Curly double Larry.

Wow. Was that something you just had kicking around?

I had the ‘45 Taylor back in 2003. It was revelatory.

Back in the late 1980s when I discovered that I like vintage Port, I managed to get 1955s from Taylor, Graham's, and Croft's, 1955 being my birth year and also a declared vintage. I like the Taylor the best of the three and open it for significant birthdays.
