WTN: Chateau Pontet Canet 2001

Lockdown Wine #33. Took a 2 week break from wine, the alcohol in the meantime supplied by whisky and cocktails. Broke the fast with this Pontet Canet which I won at a raffle of the International Wine and Food Society a couple of years back.

Rather dark for its age. Slightly green, leafy, tobacco leaf, dried herbs, and leather on the nose. Not much fruit. Palate has pretty much the same notes. Dry, slightly acidic and unripe. No fruit left. I think this is on the decline. Drink up if you have it.

As we discussed on Facebook, I would wonder about provenance. I've had this wine relatively recently, and it was not at all what you describe.

Yes, there was another comment to my note there that was more in line with your experience. I also took a look at some cellar tracker notes and it looks like I got a dud bottle. Anyway, good that it's gone and there's more space in the cellar.
