WTN: Ferraris Viognier & Ruche Piemonte...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sun Jun 21, 2020 12:10 am

Tried these two last night:
1. Ferraris Sensazioni Viognier Dd'OC: Piemonte (13.5%; www.FerrarisAgricola.com; GiulianaImprts/Boulder; L 06320) Luca Ferraris/Castagnole Monferrato 2019: Pale gold color w/ tiny bubbles that persist in the wine; lightweight pear/Viog/slight floral light perfumed talc/chalky rather low-key/quiet simple nose; lightly tart/metallic light Viog/pear/floral slight chalky light-bodied simple/pleasant flavor; med.short lightly tart light pear/Viog/floral/peach slight chalky simple finish; a pleasant enough (but just that) white that speaks of Viog in a whisper; barely avoids slipping into bland/vapid territory. $17.00 (KK)
___________
2. Ferraris Clasic Dd'OCG: Ruche di CastagnoleMonferrato (15%; GiulianaImprts/Boulder) 2017: Med.dark color; strong very fragrant grapey/floral/lilacs/bit Brachetto-like/strawberry/raspberry slight pungent/tarry/earthy almost Zin-like slight fumey/alcoholic quite attractive nose; bit soft somewhat tannic/hard rather floral/strawberry/raspbery/lilacs some earthy/dusty/OV angular/structured flavor w/ ample hard tannins; very long bright/strawberry/Ruche/raspberry/floral/lilacs rather hard/tannic bit fumey some dusty/OV finish w/ ample chewey tannins; quite a lovely fragrant Ruche nose but pretty hard on the palate and needs some age. $18.00 (KK)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. This was a new wnry for me that just came to NM. Their pride & joy is their Ruche, of which they make three different ones. Ruche is one of my favorite grapes because it typically has powerful aromatics a bit like Brachetto, a bit like Zin. This Ruche had a lovely intense Ruche nose. But on the palate it was pretty hard/tannic & I'm not sure age will help it that much. But I could be wrong.
