WTN: Boheme & Ridge ManciniVnyd Reds....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon Jun 15, 2020 11:01 am

Tried these last night at Roman's w/ a wonderful Cassoulet:
1. Boheme Zin OldManciniRanch/RRV/SonomaCnty (14.9%; Plntd: 1922; + Carignane/PetiteSirah/AlicanteBouschet) Forestville 2013: Dark color; rather dusty/OV strong blackberry/RRV Zin/quite spicy light pencilly/toasty/Fr.oak fairly complex nose; lightly tart some pencilly/toasty/old Fr.oak very strong blackberry/RRV Zin/quite spicy/slight peppery some dusty/OV/earthy rather taut/wirey structured bit complex flavor w/ modest smooth/ripe tannins; very long/lingering fairly dusty/OV some pencilly/old Fr.oak fairly structured/sinewy finish w/ light smooth tannins; a fairly structured/wirey Zin that will benefit from a few more yrs; reminds a lot of the JoeSwan Zins (Teldeschi/DCV) of the early-mid '70's; a really lovely OV Zin.

2. Ridge ManciniRanch/RRV/SonomaCnty (80% Carignane/20% Zin; 13.1%; 14 brls; bttld Aug 2019; Drk: 6/19-6/25: JO) 2018: Vewry dark/near black color; modest vanilla/Am.oak/pencilly fairly strong black cherry/cherry/Carignane slight blackberry/RRV Zin some dusty/OV quite lovely bit complex nose; fairly tart bit lean/tannic/hard/structured some Ridge oak/pencilly/vanilla strong black cherry/Carignane/black cherry cola slight blackberry/RRV Zin/spicy/peppery fairly dusty/OV flavor w/ some chewy tannins; very long/lingering some toasty/vanilla/Ridge oak strong Carignane/black cherry fairly dusty/OV finish w/ some tangy tannins; one of the better Ridge Carignanes w/ a nice Zin spiciness; can use a few more yrs.
$36.00 (ATP)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. ManciniRanch is located not too far from the CarlisleVnyd. I'm not a big fan of the Ridge Carignanes as I find them rather hard/coarse/rough. This Carignane I liked quite a lot. But much preferred the Boheme.

That Boheme sounds terrific. I buy way too few zins.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
