2016 Kim Crawford Pinot Gris Favourite Homestead Awatere Valley
A lucky friend pounced on this for $7 at a local Grocery Outlet. It's not the industrial stuff you associate with this brand. It's a concentrated, lush and spicy version of PG far more in line with Alsatian product than the dilutely stupid bar wine Americans know as PG. Drinks like $40+. If you happen to trip over this, BUY.

2016 Long Shadows Wineries Chardonnay Dance Horse Heaven Hills
Layne's bottle. Rich yellow color with typical unabashedly new world chardonnay flavors, but atypically elegant mouthfeel and finish consistent with the Long Shadows house style. Priced in the $40's I believe, and worth it.

Interesting. I don't think I would ever give a Kim Crawford wine a second look.

I wouldn't either--as you can imagine, I kind of groaned with Layne pulled this out. Big surprise!

So just had to add this addendum: I posted that Kim Crawford TN Thursday morning. Later that same day (rim shot), an acquaintance vis a vis Cellar Tracker and who seems to read all my TNs happened to be in Toronto, saw this same wine at an unusually good price for Canada, looked it up and there was my note. He bought all three and wrote this morning to say, "Your note was spot on. Had no idea wines of this quality were coming out of KC." So there.
