Domaine Hubert Lamy profile

by stas.medvedev » Thu Jun 11, 2020 6:13 am

I have recently attended a very insightful Zoom tasting with Olivier Lamy from Domaine Hubert Lamy.

I was so much inspired with that session so decided to do my small contribution and wrote an article which you might find helpful to learn more about this outstanding winemaker in Saint Aubin.

Since it is a quite a long read, I would rather post a link to the article.

Enjoy reading and I will appreciate for your feedback and comments.

Interesting article. Domaine Hubert Lamy is not on my radar screen but sounds well worth seeking out, especially since appellations like Saint-Aubin and Santenay are amongst the few on the Côte d'Or where the wines are accessible to other than the seriously well heeled.

Hi Tim!

I strongly recommend you to put Hubert Lamy on your radar screen to get a very comprehensive outlook on St. Aubin terroir.

Cheers!

Mr. Medvedev, what's your connection to the winery? I've seen this post from you elsewhere on the internet, so you seem to be trying to sell the wines--if so, you should disclose.

Hi Jenise!

I am sharing the link to my article across many media which I read myself. Forums, social media, etc.
I'm not in the wine business and if you carefully read my article you won't find any promotion. I write only on the subjects I am interested in.
I wish I had allocations from Hubert Lamy, but unfortunately that is not the case.

Mr Medvedev, that's all fine and you're welcome to join us here for conversation about wine. But do understand that when you're a total stranger and you walk in promoting right off the bat, people are instantly going to wonder what you're selling. We protect our site from SPAM, so always request clarification. In this case you're not selling wine, apparently, but yourself and your 'club' which I see you've posted a link to.

Dear Jenise,

I fully understand you being cautious and suspicious. Especially when you see a stranger, a newcomer.
But let me assure you that you don't have to worry. I am not selling anything.
And the link you see in my profile is a link to my articles, not the club. That is my nickname 'winetalksclub' that might be confusing.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I am happy to help and make things clear.

I did a Wine Searcher scan for Hubert Lamy and, as your article states, some of his wines are not cheap, e.g. Saint-Aubin En Remilly 2017 showing a cheapest quote for France at >€60. Additionally their availability seems restricted.

Yeah, Lamy is also scarce and pricey in the US. It’s sad to see St. Aubin pricing going the way of Puligny.

Saint-Aubin En Remilly from Marc Colin, who is no slouch and already on my radar screen, starts at €45 according to Wine Searcher. That is also quite steep compared with a few years ago. I wonder at what price, say, Saint-Romain can be got from growers of equivalent stature, if there are any there.

I like the Lamy wines, but like PYCM and Thomas Morey, the St Aubin 1ers aren't exactly everyday priced.

How do the Henri Prudhon wines stack up compared to these other St Aubin names? I've only had the reds, but was very impressed and the prices were more than right.

Personally, I'm a great fan of Lamy. The prices are not quite on par with Puligny around here, but the quality is.
