WTN: Two Calif Rieslings....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sat Jun 06, 2020 7:33 pm

At our Pig+Fig tasting , we had two Calif Rieslings:
1. Forlorn-Hope Amerikanischen Kobold Riesling KickOnRanch/LosAlamos/SantaBarbaraCnty (11.80%; 137 cs) Murphys/Calaveras 2014: Light gold color; attractive chalky/flinty fairly Mosel valve oil/petrol light perfumed talc/pineapple/R/slight mango lovely complex nose; very tart/tangy/lean/metallic light R/mango rather earthy/chalky/stony rather metallic/tangy somewhat bitter flavor; med. very acidic/metallic somewhat bitter some petrol/Mosel valve oil finish; a really beautiful complex nose but rather lean/eviscerated on the palate. $28.00
________
2. LimerickLane Riesling ColeRanch/MendoCnty (12.8%) Healdsburg 2018: Light gold color; rather floral/R/pineapple/mango bit simple slight perfumed talc/chalky fairly pleasant nose; some tart/tangy strong pineapple/R/mango/floral slight stony/chalky bit simple flavor; long fairly mango/pineapple/R/floral slight stony finish; a rather pleasant 4-square R that should put on weight & improve. $36.00
_______________
A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. I'm finding a lot of Calif R I'm liking these days that are more than just simple tuti-fruity R's. I really loved the nose on the F-H but it just didn't deliver much on the palate.

I did not know that Jake was making Riesling.

I like the Bedrock Rieslings quite a bit. Overall though I prefer what’s going on in Oregon.

Yup, David... I like what Morgan does w/ Riesling. Prefer the Enz to the ColeRanch.

Ruth Lewandowski makes a wonderful Riesling called "Elimelech" from Cole Ranch. If you like natural wines that are still clean his wines are worth finding.

Received first half-case of Bedrock a month or so ago. Among them are 2 2018 Riesling, Central Coast Cienega Valley, Wirz Vineyard. Entry-level. Was a bit short on Riesling so want to try Morgan's. One of those CV19 purchases....which I think are done now. Some CA tasting rooms gradually re-opening. Napa, Sonoma, others.
