2008 Schäfer-Fröhlich Bockenauer Felseneck Riesling Spätlese Goldkapsel - Germany, Nahe (6/4/2020)
Gorgeous showing from magnum for our "distant socializing" tasting. The primary fruit was still in full force, displaying citrus, cherry and tropical tones. There was also a bit of a honeyed edge, but only present as an accent, not a dominate note. Some petrol crept in after the bottle had been open for a while, but again, just as an accent, not a dominant theme. Full bodied, but still incredibly lively because of the cooler vintage, it worked on its own, and with the cheeses, as well as the grilled pork tenderloins. There's plenty of upside (15+ years to maturity, especially out of magnum), but it's a wonderful drink right now.

Dönnhoff is clearly #1. Is your pick for #2 Schonleber or Diel?

I think the four of them comprise the Mount Rushmore of the Nahe...for now.

I haven't tasted Diel, actually.

If you get a chance you should remedy that.
