WTN: Heitz Martha's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 1991

Lockdown Wine #29. Last day of our Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine and move to a more relaxed General Community Quarantine, which means businesses reopen and I go back to work. This deserves something special, hence this wine.

Dark garnet. Impressive color. Looks more like 15 to 20 years old than 30. Lovely nose immediately upon pulling the cork. Cocoa powder. Quite earthy in the glass; barnyard even. Meaty, dried herbs, tobacco. Subdued fruit as far as the nose goes. Sweet red fruit on the palate - raspberry, cherry, strawberry. Iron. Soft tannins. Acidity provides the structure. Quite dry, savory. Dried herbs and smoked meat. Tremendous length.

Drinking beautifully now. At peak as far as my taste goes. Will likely stay there for some time as it is quite vibrant. Just an outstanding wine. Enjoyed it with a Double Shack Burger.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.

IIRC, this was the last vintage before they had to replant.

No mention of mint/eucalyptus in your tasting note. Does this feature of Heitz Martha's Vineyard disappear with age?

Several years ago I had the 1974 blind, and noted a distinct eucalyptus aroma. Made it pretty obvious what I was drinking!

I was looking for that specifically, but didn't find it. This is the third time I've had this wine over the last 3 or 4 years and I can't recall noting any mint, so maybe it does disappear, but my experience with this wine (any vintage) is rather limited.

Congrats, sounds fantastic and I'm quite envious. I think '91 is my favorite Napa vintage EVER.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
